The Spring Break Reading Challenge
What is ORCA?
The Oregon Reader's Choice Award was founded in 2010.  The award is intended to be a fun and exciting way for Oregon youth in grades 4-12 to become enthusiastic and discriminating readers.  During the course of the school year, Oregon students choose their favorite book in a real-life democratic process.

Who may vote?
Oregon students in grades 4-12.

When does voting take place?
Voting for Laurel Ridge students is open through March 31st.

After reading 3 or more books, students vote for the book they think should win the ORCA. Voting can be done online at the LRMS Media Center website or in paper form.  The more books you read the more prizes you receive.

Could I have read the book last year?
The ORCA Nominated Books for this year should have been read between June of the previous year and the end of this March.

Why a reading log?

You will need to turn in the reading log in order to receive your prizes. You can vote whether you choose to hand in a reading log or not.

What's in it for me?
Other than the joy of reading some great books and bettering your reading skills; with every book you read you win prizes.

1 or 2 book(s) – Participants will receive a certificate, 1 prize, and 2 Titan tickets.

3 books – Participants will receive a certificate, 3 prizes, a book, and 6 Titan tickets.

6 books – Participants will receive a certificate, 6 prizes, a book, and 12 Titan tickets.

All 8 books – Participants will receive a certificate, 8 prizes, 2 books, and 16 Titan tickets.

A link to the voting ballot and the reading log are available on the LRMS media website and as a print-out in the library.
