Food in Classrooms:

Our school has a growing population of students with food allergies that vary from minor to life-threatening. For example, just being in the same room with particular allergens, students can experience a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction. Most of our classrooms have posted signs designating foods that are not allowed, including peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, and gluten. We ask that students respect these classroom policies.

We are asking for your cooperation to help maintain a healthy and safe environment for all of our students.

Attendance – Everyday Counts

Regular attendance contributes to overall academic success. Your student being on time and present to each class every day, ensures they have access to the instruction they need to be successful.  This includes unexcused and excused absences.   Please schedule appointments outside of the school day whenever possible so your student can stay caught up in all of their classes.

LRMS Book Club – 100 Book Challenge

The 100 Book Challenge originally started at LRMS as a way to push each other to read more books, but after a few kids met the goal by last February the club began to think of ways to get MORE kids interested in reading and decided to open it up school-wide, with students and staff invited to start over in June. The challenge, for any reader who wants to participate, is to read 100 books between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019. Click here to read more about some amazing students and their great accomplishments!

Update for Health Services

As you know, flu season is about to be upon us. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states, “Influenza activity begins to increase in November and can be increased as late as May”. The 2017-2018 flu season was described as a “high severity season with high levels of outpatient clinic and emergency department visits,” (CDC, 2018). While it is impossible to predict what this year’s flu season will look like, it is important to practice proper handwashing to prevent spread of germs.

Utilizing five simple steps: Wet, lather, scrub, rinse, and dry can greatly decrease the spread of germs and illness. To learn more about when and how to use proper handwashing, learn the science behind handwashing, and watch a video called, “Fight Germs. Wash Your hands!” go to: www.cdc.gov/handwashing  versión en Español: www.cdc.gov/handwashing/esp

From your District Nurses at Sherwood Schools: Lisa Church, RN: 503-825-5456 and Jerilyn Wernet, RN: 503-825-5488 (This health reminder was written by Ashley, our George Fox Nursing Program student)

Safe Oregon Tip Line

The District enrolled in the SafeOregon Tip Line program last spring.  The SafeOregon program allows students, staff, and members of the public to anonymously report harmful or potentially harmful behavior against other students, staff, or school site.  There are five ways to report tips: online at www.safeoregon.com, call or text to 844-472-3367, email to tip@safeoregon.com or via the SafeOregon mobile app.
