The yearly fee of $15 for the Chromebook protection plan must be purchased prior to October 15th.

High School Athletic Events

Parents and students – please remember that students are NOT allowed to bring food, drinks or backpacks into the SHS athletic events. This will be enforced at our home games. Drinks and food will have to be tossed or consumed prior to entering and students will be turned away at the gate/door if they have a backpack; they will not be held for them. Students with life threatening medical conditions will be allowed to carry their medication.

Office Hours / Building Hours

The Main Office is open school days from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm. The building is open for students beginning at 7:20 am. All visitors/volunteers MUST check in at the main office. If you wish to speak to or meet with a teacher, please set up an appointment with them directly via email. Visitors will be not allowed into the building prior to 7:30 am.

Attendance

If your student will be absent, please call the attendance line at 503-825-5810 by 8:00 a.m. to leave your name, your student’s name and the reason for the absence.  This is a 24-hour line. Parents of students who are absent each day will be called if the school has not been notified.

Parent Volunteers

All volunteers must have a background check completed each school year. The background checks must be processed prior to working or volunteering in the building. It takes approximately 2-3 business days to complete the process, so if you would like to volunteer, please be mindful of these deadlines. Background checks can be completed here.

Transportation/ Bus Routes

Bus route information can be found online here. If you have any transportation questions or concerns, please call Transportation at 503-825-5900. New this year – the YMCA will provide a bus to their teen center from the middle schools! The bus will pick up at LRMS at approximately 3:15pm. This bus will run every day.

Early Release

The District will resume its 2-hour Early Release days on Wednesday, 9/19.  Please refer to the 2019-20 District Calendar for the scheduled Early Release days.  Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m.  Middle schools and high school will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m.

Synergy / ParentVue

If you need to create your Synergy ParentVUE account in order to view your student(s) information click here for instructions on creating your account.  Prior to setting up your account, you will need to contact the registrar, Brenna Merchant, for your Activation Key.

Canvas

The Sherwood School District utilizes Canvas, an online learning management system, to support classroom instruction for students in grades 6-12.  Teachers use the “calendar” feature of Canvas to communicate activities, assignments, and due dates. Beyond the calendar, some teachers may also choose to use Canvas to host resources and create online assignments, but this will vary from class to class.  Parents of students in grades 6-12 may access Canvas to view class calendars and any additional course content that may be present. All official course grades will continue to exist within ParentVUE.

Instructions for accessing your account can be found below:

•       Canvas Parent Instructions in English

•       Español: haga clic aquí

Please contact your school if you experience trouble when completing these steps. While there is a Canvas Parent app available for most mobile devices, it’s not currently configured for use with our district. To access Canvas on a mobile phone, use a web browser (such as Safari, Chrome, or Firefox).

Student / Parent Handbooks

The Sherwood School District Handbook and Laurel Ridge Middle School Addendum are available online.  Student/parent acknowledgement forms will no longer be sent home, however, these documents contain important information for students and parents about district and school policies, practices, and rules.

Cell Phone Policy

The cell phone policy at LRMS is “Off and Away.” Students will be able to check their phones before school, during lunch and after school.  Phones may be confiscated for repeat violations.  If you need to reach your student urgently, please call the office and we will get a message to them.  Please see the Student Handbook for the full Cell Phone Policy.
